The Vermont Institute of Celtic Arts actively preserves and promotes Celtic culture, language, art, dance, and music by offering instruction in traditional Celtic disciplines, preserving significant material, and strengthening the prominence of Celtic culture within our society. The school is the only year round institution of its kind in New England.
Central Vermont is an ideal location for this unique educational institute as the majority of the local area was originally settled by Scottish and Irish immigrants. The school is nestled in Vermont's wild hills close to the beautiful village of Marshfield. The location is secluded enough to provide an appropriate atmosphere for numerous social and musical activities, and yet close enough to two major interstates so as to be easily accessible.
Currently, the Vermont Institute of Celtic Arts provides instruction in Highland bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, Uilleann pipes, French bagpipes, Irish flute, whistle, and bodhran to over eighty students. The school also offers several satellite programs in the areas of: Highland snare drumming, Highland dancing, and traditional style fiddling.
It is our goal to promote Celtic culture in Vermont through the arts: Pipes, Celtic Harp, Fiddle, Highland Dance, Irish and Cape Breton Step Dancing, Highland Drumming, and Gaelic Song.
